Ray specialises in the company, commercial, trust, probate and insolvency law of the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands and brings to the Firm over 30 years of dispute resolution experience throughout Asia and globally. He has been appointed as an expert witness in various jurisdictions including Geneva, Zurich, PRC, Hong Kong SAR and Singapore and acts regularly in international arbitrations under the laws of Hong Kong and other common law jurisdictions.

Ray advises corporations, funds, financial institutions, directors, officers, fiduciaries and UHNW individuals engaged in complex high-value multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes that typically involve mergers and acquisitions, investments and redemptions, shareholder rights, directors’ duties, corporate governance, lending, security, cross-border restructuring and insolvency, commercial fraud, asset misappropriation, trusts, probate, and matrimonial wealth.

Originally from Malaysia, Ray was educated in the United Kingdom and practised at the London Bar for 20 years followed by 5 years in the British Virgin Islands before his move to Hong Kong in 2014. “Lauded by peers and clients for his effectiveness in court”, and as “a first class lawyer” he is a native English speaker with fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.

Since 2011, Ray has been consistently recognised and ranked in the key legal directories. He is currently ranked by Chambers Asia Pacific 2021 as a leading lawyer in the Asia-Pacific Region.
